The College Board, the national educational organization, is conducting a search for a Senior Software Engineer for our IT department. This position is based in our Reston, Virginia office

As a Software Engineer, the ideal candidate will have designed, developed, unit tested, implemented and documented solutions that include not only the code to supports business functionality, but also the underlying infrastructure required to run that code and the systems required to deploy it. The candidate should also possess technical skills and experience in the virtual infrastructure domain, in particular Amazon Web Services.

The candidate will lead by interacting with application, domain and solution architects, delivery leads and all levels of software engineers to establish and enforce application technology standards, design patterns, process, development, and deployment.

The candidate will have responsibility to design, implement, unit test, document and maintain complex technical software solutions in support of the application development and QA processes.

What you’ll do

  • Demonstrated experience with full stack development with AWS cloud supported programming languages like Java Script, Node JS, or Python development.
  • Assist in the development of full stack solutions and continuous delivery frameworks that improve the ability of the CB IT delivery teams to efficiently deliver solutions with quality.
  • Hands-on with AWS Lambda, SNS/SQS, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, EC2, RDS and DynamoDB, AWS CLI
  • Fluency with CI/CD toolsets such as: AWS Codestar, Jenkins, Ansible, CloudFormation, BitBucket, Artifactory
  • Expertise with Git, including branching workflows
  • Working knowledge of Node.js/JavaScript and Python frameworks and design patterns
  • Experience with Distributed Service Standards (REST, SOA, microservices)
  • Familiarity with monitoring tool suites (e.g. DataDog, SumoLogic, NewRelic, and Nagios)
  • Experience with automated testing tools (e.g. Selenium, Mocha/Chai)
  • Working knowledge of IP networking, VPNs, DNS, load balancing and firewalling
  • Experience building infrastructure as code using AWS CloudFormation or similar scripting techniques
  • Experience with Chef, Puppet, Salt, or Ansible in production environments
  • Experience with AWS CodePipeline or the Atlassian Suite, Sonar, Crucible and Electric Commander
  • Management of continuous integration servers like Jenkins and Bamboo
  • Working knowledge of J2EE, Oracle PL/SQL, MVC application framework, design patterns, web and application servers
  • Strong practical Linux-based systems administration skills and scripting experience in a Cloud based environment

About you

  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or MIS.
  • 5 – 10 plus years of experience in software systems, programming, database development, and infrastructure development and administration
  • Minimum 5 years demonstrated experience with Java full stack development
  • 8+ years demonstrated experience with AWS cloud supported programming languages like Java, Node JS, or Python development.
  • 2+ years hands-on with AWS Lambda, SNS/SQS, S3, IAM, CloudWatch, EC2, RDS and DynamoDB, AWS CLI
  • Ability to use or learn: KMS, ALB/ELB, Route 53, Docker Containers, MFA,
  • Fluency with CI/CD toolsets such as: AWS Codestar, Jenkins, Ansible, CloudFormation, BitBucket, Artifactory

More about you

  • Knowledge/experience with REACT/ Angular is huge plus
  • Knowledge to use or learn: KMS, ALB/ELB, Route 53, Docker Containers, MFA,
  • Understanding of programming languages, relational databases, and NoSQL Databases
